NICARAGUA
Country of Central America. It is the largest of the Central American republics. Nicaragua can be characterized by its agricultural economy. Nicaragua has a unique history in that it was the only country in Latin America to be colonized by both the Spanish and the British. Nicaragua’s population is made up mostly of mestizos (people of mixed European and Indian ancestry). The national capital is Managua, which also is the country’s largest city and home to about one-sixth of the population.
Historically known as "The Breadbasket of Central America," Nicaragua is recognized for its ideal climate and fertile soils with optimum conditions to produce a wide variety of agricultural products. The combination of fertile soil available at competitive prices, favorable climate conditions and the abundance of hydric resources provide the perfect scenario for the establishment of export-oriented agricultural production. The agricultural and agro-industrial activity has always been an important engine for the socio-economic growth of the country, representing 47.3% of the total exports.
Labor Force: Nicaragua's population is characterized as flexible, with good work habits, fast learners, and low rates of absenteeism and turnover. This has allowed Nicaragua to be one of the most competitive and productive nations of the region in terms of human capital. Nicaragua has the most competitive minimum wage in the region. Wages in different economic sectors start at US$0.92.
Tax Incentives for Investments: Tax Benefits to Agricultural Producers, Tax Benefits to Exporters, Tax Benefits to Forestry Sector, Pensioners and Retirees Law (694), Incentives for the Tourism Industry Law (306).
Nicaragua is bounded by Honduras to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the east, Costa Rica to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
